Open webinar: How to make a geological map with QGIS - Apr 27-29 2021

  • Avenida Caminos del Inca 288 Surco, Lima Peru (map)

A good spatial representation of the geological features requires not only high quality field data but also the right symbology and graphical resources. We can define QGIS as the tool that can create awesome geologic maps but still some resources have to be developed for a massive use. We have explored some QGIS tools related to the representation of geological units and developed symbology to represent geological contacts, faults and other geological features.

This webinar covers the representation of geological information at regional scale from the Central Beaverhead Mountains, Idaho, US and creates a geological map through a series of processing and representation steps as:

  • Applying styles to geological units

  • Representation of contacts and normal / thrust faults

  • Representation of inclined beddings

  • Representation of anticlines / synclines

  • Map composition with legend, scale bar, grid and external graphs

Instructor

Saul Montoya M.Sc.

Mr. Montoya is a Civil Engineer graduated from the Catholic University in Lima with postgraduate studies in Management and Engineering of Water Resources (WAREM Program) from Stuttgart University – Germany with mention in Groundwater Engineering and Hydroinformatics. Mr Montoya has a strong analytical capacity for the interpretation, conceptualization and modeling of the surface and underground water cycle and their interaction.

He is in charge of numerical modeling for contaminant transport and remediation systems of contaminated sites. Inside his hydrological and hydrogeological investigations Mr. Montoya has developed an holistic comprehension of the water cycle, understanding and quantifying the main hydrological dynamic process of precipitation, runoff, evaporation and recharge to the groundwater system.
